What are Irregular Verbs?

The English language has a large number of irregular verbs.

In the English language, most verbs (regular verbs) are turned into the past tense by adding ‘-ed’ to the end of a base form of the verb.

Regular verb examples:

  • Cook → Cooked
  • Walk → Walked
  • Talk → Talked
  • Finish → Finished

Irregular verbs (or irregular past tense verbs) are common verbs in English that do not follow the simple system of adding “d” or “ed” to the end of the word to form the past tense (the past simple and/or the past participle)

Irregular verbs examples:

  • Do – did – done
